Forest bathing at Humber Bridge Country Park

Mixed woodland grown up in an old chalk quarry at Hessle, right beside the Humber Bridge on the edge of Hull.

Humber Bridge Country Park fills an old chalk quarry on the western edge of Hessle, next to the north end of the Humber Bridge. Chalk was quarried here well into the twentieth century, and the park was created after the bridge was built. Part of it is known locally as Little Switzerland. Today it is a Local Nature Reserve of mixed woodland, wild flowers, herb-rich grassland and a spring-fed pond.

It is the easiest woodland to reach from Hull: Hessle has a railway station with hourly trains from Hull, Doncaster and York. Several well-signed walking routes run through the park, so you can choose a short loop and spend the rest of the time sitting among the trees or by the pond. The bridge itself is right beside the park.
