Who we are

Forest Therapy UK is operated by Freestyle Internet Services Limited (company number 04650301), 116 Gladstone Street, Bedford MK41 7RT. We are registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), registration number ZA676131. We are the data controller for personal data collected through foresttherapy.co.uk and shinrin-yoku.co.uk. Contact: [email protected].

What we collect and why

Enquiries to guides. When you send an enquiry through a guide’s profile or a county page, we collect your name, email address, location, what you’re looking for and your message. We pass it to the guide (or guides, for regional enquiries) so they can reply, and we keep a copy for up to 12 months so we can follow up if you don’t hear back and count enquiries for reporting to guides. Lawful basis: performance of a contract at your request (contacting the guide) and our legitimate interest in running the directory. The guide becomes a separate controller of your data once they receive it.

Corporate enquiries. As above, plus your organisation and phone number if given.

Listings. For guides who claim or create a listing we collect name, business details, contact details, training and insurance information and photos, and publish the parts you choose to show. We keep hidden fields (contact email, internal notes) for as long as the listing exists. Lawful basis: contract. For unclaimed listings we publish only business name, town, county, session types and website, taken from public sources, on the basis of legitimate interest; see our listing terms for how to claim or remove one.

Payments. Subscriptions are taken by Stripe, which collects your card details directly; we don’t see or store them. We keep records of payments for 6 years for tax purposes. Lawful basis: contract and legal obligation.

Guide newsletter. If you subscribe we keep your email address and send a monthly email until you unsubscribe. Lawful basis: consent. We use Brevo to send it.

Contact. If you email us we keep the correspondence for as long as needed to deal with it.

Analytics. We use Fathom Analytics, which doesn’t use cookies or collect personal data. It gives us aggregate figures on which pages are visited and where visitors come from; it doesn’t identify you or follow you across other websites. Lawful basis: our legitimate interest in understanding how the site is used.

Maps. Our maps use OpenStreetMap. Map tiles and postcode look-ups are fetched from OpenStreetMap-based services, which may record your IP address when a map loads or you search by postcode. They don’t set cookies.

Who we share data with

Guides you enquire with; Stripe (payments); Brevo (newsletter); Fathom Analytics (anonymous site statistics); our map providers named above; our hosting provider, WPX Hosting; Cloudflare, which delivers and protects the site; and, if required, law enforcement or regulators. We don’t sell personal data and we don’t share it with advertisers.

International transfers

Some providers above may process data outside the UK. Where they do, transfers are covered by the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or adequacy regulations.

Retention

Enquiry copies 12 months; listings for the life of the listing plus 3 months; payment records 6 years; newsletter until you unsubscribe. Analytics figures are aggregate and contain no personal data.

Your rights

You can ask for a copy of your data, ask us to correct or delete it, object to our processing, restrict it, or ask for it in a portable form. Email [email protected]. You can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.

Cookies

We don’t use analytics or advertising cookies: Fathom Analytics works without them. Cloudflare, which protects the site, may set a strictly necessary cookie to tell genuine visitors from automated traffic. Stripe sets cookies on its own payment page.

Children

The directory isn’t aimed at children and we don’t knowingly collect data from anyone under 16.

Changes

We’ll post changes here and update the date.
