Forest bathing at RSPB Nagshead

Nagshead is a nature reserve of mature oak woodland in the Forest of Dean, run by the RSPB in partnership with Forestry England. It is managed for woodland birds, and in spring and summer you may hear pied flycatchers, redstarts and wood warblers, along with nuthatches, treecreepers and all three British woodpeckers. Fallow deer and wild boar also live here. With a small car park and no café, it is a simpler, smaller-scale place than the forest's main visitor sites.

Two circular waymarked trails start from the visitor centre: one of about 1.5km and one of about 3.5km. Both are unsurfaced with some steep slopes, so expect uneven, soft ground and wear boots after rain. The longer loop has narrow sections, and there are kissing gates and swing gates along the way. Toilets are only open at limited times in the summer season. Dogs must be on a short lead, and cycling is not allowed.
