Forest bathing at Wycoller Country Park

Woodland and old farmland along Wycoller Beck near Colne, in the hills the Brontës knew.

Wycoller Country Park lies in the hills above Trawden, east of Colne, a mix of woodland and farmland around the small village of Wycoller. Wycoller Beck runs through it, and the area is linked with the Brontë sisters, who referred to landmarks nearby in Wuthering Heights and Jane Eyre. Cars are kept out of the village beyond the car parks, which helps keep it quiet.

Park at Trawden Road or Howarth Road and walk down into the village. Footpaths follow the beck and lead to spots such as Bank House. The wooded stretches along the water are the most sheltered; the higher paths climb onto open moorland, which can be wet and exposed. Weekdays are noticeably calmer than summer weekends. Expect stone tracks, old flagstones and muddy field paths.
