Forest bathing at Burbage Common and Woods
Semi-natural woodland and hay meadow on the edge of Hinckley, among the last fragments of the old Hinckley forest.
Burbage Common and Woods covers 80 hectares of semi-natural woodland and grassland on the edge of Hinckley. The council describes the woods as probably among the only remaining fragments of Hinckley forest. They are managed by coppicing with standards, so you will see a mix of cut stools and tall trees, while the common itself is cut as a hay meadow. It is a local nature reserve and a straightforward place to spend an hour or two among trees close to town.
Start at the visitor centre off Leicester Road, next to the main free car park, where there are displays on how the site is managed and a café. From the common, paths lead into the woods, which are the calmer part of the site. Toilets are in the centre when the café is open. Camping is not allowed and byelaws apply.
