Forest bathing at Chambers Farm Wood
A Forestry England nature reserve near Wragby on the site of a medieval wood, with ancient limes and a butterfly garden.
Chambers Farm Wood lies between Wragby and Bardney in central Lincolnshire, and is run by Forestry England as a nature reserve. It stands on the site of a medieval woodland and still has ancient lime trees among its younger growth. Its butterfly garden, looked after with Butterfly Conservation, is at its best from June to September. The wood is quiet, flat and has no attractions beyond the trees and the wildlife, which is exactly why it suits a slow visit.
The car park is just past the Chambers Farm Wood Centre, signposted off the B1202 Wragby to Bardney road. Parking is free but limited, and Forestry England's advice if it is full is to come back another day. Three waymarked trails start nearby: the red and white routes are easy strolls, and the green route is longer. One of the three is accessible for all abilities. The site has no bins, so take your litter home. The wood is open at all hours, but can close at times for tree felling.
