Forest bathing at Cluny Hill, Forres

Pockets of woodland reaching almost into the centre of Forres, with good paths up to Nelson's Tower.

Cluny Hill rises on the east side of Forres, and its woods reach almost into the heart of the town. A circular walk climbs from beside Grant Park through mixed woodland, past a spreading oak, laurels and Scots pine, to Nelson's Tower at the top. On a clear day the tower looks over Findhorn Bay and the Moray Firth. It is the easiest woodland in Moray to reach without a car.

The short loop starts from the car park east of Grant Park and is about a mile long, with undulating ground and some steady climbs. Paths are tarmac and gravel, and they can be muddy or deep in leaves in autumn. It is not suitable for wheelchairs or buggies. Longer walks link the hill with Sanquhar Loch on good footpaths. The tower itself opens on some afternoons in summer only.
