Path through the trees in Glencryan Plantation, Cumbernauld

Forest bathing at Glencryan Woodland

Mixed woodland with some ancient trees on Forest Road at Cumbernauld, with wide paths and a link into Palacerigg.

Glencryan is a council wood of about 57 hectares on Forest Road, on the outskirts of Cumbernauld. It is mixed woodland with some ancient trees, and an interpretation panel on site tells the story of the wood's past. It is quieter and smaller than its neighbour Palacerigg, which makes it a good choice when you want an hour or two among the trees without the pull of play areas or a café.

There is a small parking area right by the woods. Wide footpaths run throughout, so the going is straightforward, and one path continues onto the waymarked trails of Palacerigg Country Park if you want to keep walking. Visitors mention woodpeckers, bullfinches and goldcrests, so it rewards stopping and listening. There are good views from the higher ground. Expect mud on the paths in winter after rain.
