Forest bathing at Tyntesfield
A Victorian Gothic house in 540 acres of ancient woodland, plantations and parkland near Wraxall.
Tyntesfield is a National Trust estate near Wraxall, where the Gibbs family transformed an older house into a Victorian Gothic mansion from 1843. The house sits in 540 acres that include ancient woodland, plantations, heritage trees and rolling parkland, along with lawns, terraces and a working kitchen garden. The woods are the place for slow time away from the house.
From the car park at Home Farm, with its café and toilets, it is about a kilometre to the house. The 2.4-mile woodland walk is the obvious choice for slow time among trees, and three shorter one-mile walks, Tynings, Sidelands and Watercatch, explore other parts of the estate. Some paths are steep or loose gravel. There is an admission charge for non-members, and the estate gates are locked at the end of the day, earlier in winter. Mobility trampers can be booked in advance.
