Trees in Guisborough Woods on the edge of the North York Moors

Forest bathing at Guisborough Forest

Beech and conifer woodland climbing the edge of the North York Moors above Guisborough, with views over the Tees Valley.

Guisborough Forest covers the steep northern edge of the North York Moors just west of Guisborough, a short drive from Middlesbrough. Forestry England manages the woodland, which mixes beech with conifer plantation, and the old railway line below it is now the Guisborough Walkway. From the higher tracks you look out over Guisborough and the Tees Valley, which makes it a good place to sit for a while near the top.

Most visits start at the Guisborough Forest and Walkway Visitor Centre at Pinchinthorpe, where there is pay and display parking. The waymarked Bousdale Beck Trail is about 4 km and starts with a steep climb through beech wood, then follows forest tracks and roads. If you would rather stay level, the walkway itself is flatter. The visitor centre has been closed for renovation, with temporary toilets on site, so check before you go.
