The Forest Bathing Institute was established in 2018 by Gary Evans and Olga Terebenina and is the UK provider most associated with research, having run a controlled trial with the University of Derby and worked with NHS social prescribing in Surrey. It runs public sessions with Kew and the RSPB alongside its training. The flagship programme is Forest Bathing+, a two-module course that begins with mindfulness and meditation training and moves to guiding, with practical days in Surrey, the Wye Valley or the Cairngorms. A shorter online course, Guide Essentials, launched with the Institute’s academy in 2024. Its patron is Dame Judi Dench.
What’s included
Manuals, one-to-one mentoring, tutor-led group calls, two years’ access to materials, discounted guide insurance on Module Two, and a peer network. Essentials includes two mentor calls and three group Q&A sessions.
Entry requirements
None for Module One; Module Two requires Module One. First aid and insurance are needed to guide and are not included.
