The Association of Nature and Forest Therapy (ANFT) is a US organisation whose structured session format, a slow walk, a sequence of sensory invitations and a closing tea, is the shape most UK guides use. It trains guides internationally in small cohorts with certified trainers, in English, Spanish and American Sign Language. There are two routes to the same certification: six months online followed by a four-day in-person immersion, or seven days in person followed by four months online. No UK immersions are currently listed, so UK trainees usually travel. ANFT describes its certification as globally recognised but doesn’t name an external accrediting body.
What’s included
Weekly live sessions with certified trainers, 40+ assignments and 20+ nature connection activities, trainer-led remote walks, a guided practicum with debrief, research papers, a downloadable manual and an international community.
Entry requirements
A personal connection to nature; no particular background needed. A Wilderness First Aid course with CPR, arranged separately, before certification. Attendance at 8 of the 14 live sessions.
