Forest bathing at Haddo Country Park

A designed parkland beside Haddo House, with a lake, mature trees, woodland and about three miles of surfaced paths.

Haddo Country Park lies beside Haddo House near Tarves, and is part of a designed landscape listed in Scotland's Inventory of Gardens and Designed Landscapes. Its 73 hectares take in a lake built by the 4th Earl, woodland, open parkland and old features such as a pheasantry, deer statues and a commemorative urn at the top of the Deer Park. Mature trees line the long central avenue, said to be a Scots mile long.

About three miles of surfaced paths run around the lake and through the woods, with benches along the way, so this is the easiest woodland visit in the area if you want firm ground underfoot. The car park is shared with Haddo House. The paths away from the house and café are the place to slow down. Look for woodland birds and, in autumn, fungi. A council countryside ranger runs events through the year.
