Forest bathing in Conwy

The Gwydir Forest fills the hills around Betws-y-Coed and is the heart of forest bathing country in Conwy: Natural Resources Wales conifer mixed with old oak, lakes at Crafnant, Geirionydd and Elsi, and the Afon Llugwy running through it past the Swallow Falls. Downstream, Bodnant Garden at Tal-y-Cafn has the National Trust's Dell, a valley of giant redwoods, and on the coast Coed y Gopa above Abergele is a Woodland Trust hill of beech and pine with sea views.

A guided session in Gwydir is two or three hours in a small group, going slowly, mostly still, under trees that take the edge off even the wettest days. Some guides work from Betws-y-Coed itself, which has a railway station on the Conwy Valley line and woods on every side of the village. Dates, prices and meeting points are on the individual profiles below.

Betws-y-Coed is the place to start if you are new: arrive by train, and the Llyn Elsi path and the riverside walks begin within a few minutes of the station. Bodnant is a gentler alternative, with a National Trust car park, cafe and surfaced paths down into the Dell.

Common questions

Forest bathing in Conwy: your questions

How much does forest bathing cost in Conwy?

Public group sessions usually cost about £20 to £45 a person for two to three hours. Private sessions for a couple or small group start at around £120 and go up with group size and length. Prices are set by each guide and shown on their profile.

Do I need to book?

Yes. Groups are small and most sessions fill up in good weather. Book through the guide's own website or send them an enquiry from their profile.

What should I wear?

Layers, a waterproof, and shoes you're happy to stand still in on damp ground. Sessions are slow, so you'll feel the cold more than on a walk. In summer bring water and something for insects.

Is it suitable for children or people with limited mobility?

It depends on the guide and the wood. Some guides run family sessions in the school holidays, and many choose woods with level paths. Look for the Accessible sessions filter, or ask the guide directly.

Are there sessions in winter?

Fewer, but yes. Woods are quieter in winter and often more atmospheric, and some guides run sessions all year round. Check individual profiles for dates.

Not sure who to book?
