Forest bathing in County Armagh

County Armagh is orchard country in the north and hills in the south, and its woods reflect that. Gosford Forest Park at Markethill, the first conservation forest park in Northern Ireland, has beech and oak around a castle and a deer park. Slieve Gullion Forest Park near Newry wraps conifer and old broadleaf around the mountain, with a courtyard, cafe and a forest drive to the summit car park. Peatlands Park near Dungannon mixes birch and willow woodland with raised bog and boardwalks, and Clare Glen at Tandragee is a wooded gorge along the Cusher.

Sessions in Armagh's woods are two or three hours in a small group, walking slowly along one path and spending much of the time sitting, with a guide offering simple ways to notice what is around you. The bog woodland at Peatlands is unusual and quiet even at weekends. Each guide's profile below gives their dates and prices.

Slieve Gullion is the easiest introduction: free parking at the Courtyard, a cafe and a level forest trail before the drive climbs. Gosford has a large car park and wide, well-kept paths through the beech, and Peatlands has a visitor centre, car park and flat boardwalks.

Common questions

Forest bathing in County Armagh: your questions

How much does forest bathing cost in County Armagh?

Public group sessions usually cost about £20 to £45 a person for two to three hours. Private sessions for a couple or small group start at around £120 and go up with group size and length. Prices are set by each guide and shown on their profile.

Do I need to book?

Yes. Groups are small and most sessions fill up in good weather. Book through the guide's own website or send them an enquiry from their profile.

What should I wear?

Layers, a waterproof, and shoes you're happy to stand still in on damp ground. Sessions are slow, so you'll feel the cold more than on a walk. In summer bring water and something for insects.

Is it suitable for children or people with limited mobility?

It depends on the guide and the wood. Some guides run family sessions in the school holidays, and many choose woods with level paths. Look for the Accessible sessions filter, or ask the guide directly.

Are there sessions in winter?

Fewer, but yes. Woods are quieter in winter and often more atmospheric, and some guides run sessions all year round. Check individual profiles for dates.
