Forest bathing in County Tyrone

County Tyrone's woods are spread across the Sperrins and the farmland south of them, nearly all in Forest Service hands. Gortin Glen Forest Park north of Omagh is the flagship, Sitka spruce and larch on the hills with a forest drive, and new trails, toilets and a cafe added in 2022. Drum Manor Forest Park west of Cookstown is smaller and softer, with an arboretum, ponds and a walled garden among mature broadleaf. Parkanaur near Dungannon has old oak and white fallow deer, and Davagh Forest in the Sperrins is a dark sky site.

A guided session in these forests is two or three hours in a small group, walking slowly along one trail and spending most of the time still, with the guide offering simple invitations and the group largely silent. Each guide's profile below has their dates and prices.

Gortin Glen is the easy start: a large car park, a cafe, toilets and five waymarked trails including level ones. Drum Manor is quieter and gentler, with a car park and short paths round the ponds and arboretum, and Davagh has the OM Dark Sky Park visitor centre and forest trails.

Common questions

Forest bathing in County Tyrone: your questions

How much does forest bathing cost in County Tyrone?

Public group sessions usually cost about £20 to £45 a person for two to three hours. Private sessions for a couple or small group start at around £120 and go up with group size and length. Prices are set by each guide and shown on their profile.

Do I need to book?

Yes. Groups are small and most sessions fill up in good weather. Book through the guide's own website or send them an enquiry from their profile.

What should I wear?

Layers, a waterproof, and shoes you're happy to stand still in on damp ground. Sessions are slow, so you'll feel the cold more than on a walk. In summer bring water and something for insects.

Is it suitable for children or people with limited mobility?

It depends on the guide and the wood. Some guides run family sessions in the school holidays, and many choose woods with level paths. Look for the Accessible sessions filter, or ask the guide directly.

Are there sessions in winter?

Fewer, but yes. Woods are quieter in winter and often more atmospheric, and some guides run sessions all year round. Check individual profiles for dates.
