Forest bathing in Flintshire
Flintshire's woodland is in its steep little valleys running down to the Dee estuary. Wepre Park at Connah's Quay is the best known: a council country park of ancient oak and beech around a stream, with the ruins of Ewloe Castle at the top end. Greenfield Valley at Holywell is a heritage park where mill ponds and ruins sit in a wooded valley below St Winefride's Well, and on the Clwydian Range the forestry below Moel Famau, shared with Denbighshire, gives bigger, quieter woods with a car park at Coed Moel Famau.
Sessions in these valley woods are sheltered and short on distance. A guide keeps a small group together for two or three hours, moving slowly, sitting often and offering simple things to notice, and the water in Wepre and Greenfield adds a lot to the soundscape. Look at each guide's profile for their dates, prices and where to meet.
Wepre Park is the easy first choice: free parking, a visitor centre with a cafe, surfaced paths along the brook and a mile or so from Shotton station. Greenfield Valley has its own car park and museum, and the path up the valley is level and firm.
