Forest bathing in Northamptonshire

Rockingham Forest, between Kettering, Corby and Stamford, is where Northamptonshire's woods are concentrated. Fineshade Wood is the biggest public block, a Forestry England mix of oak, ash and conifer around the Top Lodge centre. Fermyn Woods near Brigstock pairs a country park with ancient woodland known for its butterflies, and Wakerley Great Wood sits on the Rutland border. In the south of the county, Salcey Forest is a remnant of a royal hunting forest with old oaks and broad rides, and Everdon Stubbs near Daventry is a small Woodland Trust oak wood famous for bluebells.

A guided session takes a small group slowly through a short stretch of woodland over two to three hours, pausing for invitations to look closely, listen and rest. There is no fitness element and no destination. The old hunting forests here have wide, firm rides that stay walkable through a wet winter. Dates and prices are shown on each guide's profile.

Fineshade Wood is the easy first choice, with a large car park, cafe and toilets at Top Lodge and well-marked trails from the door. Salcey Forest also has a Forestry England car park and cafe and level paths through the oaks.

Common questions

Forest bathing in Northamptonshire: your questions

How much does forest bathing cost in Northamptonshire?

Public group sessions usually cost about £20 to £45 a person for two to three hours. Private sessions for a couple or small group start at around £120 and go up with group size and length. Prices are set by each guide and shown on their profile.

Do I need to book?

Yes. Groups are small and most sessions fill up in good weather. Book through the guide's own website or send them an enquiry from their profile.

What should I wear?

Layers, a waterproof, and shoes you're happy to stand still in on damp ground. Sessions are slow, so you'll feel the cold more than on a walk. In summer bring water and something for insects.

Is it suitable for children or people with limited mobility?

It depends on the guide and the wood. Some guides run family sessions in the school holidays, and many choose woods with level paths. Look for the Accessible sessions filter, or ask the guide directly.

Are there sessions in winter?

Fewer, but yes. Woods are quieter in winter and often more atmospheric, and some guides run sessions all year round. Check individual profiles for dates.
