Forest bathing in Renfrewshire

Renfrewshire's woodland hangs on the braes and around the lochs south-west of Paisley. Gleniffer Braes Country Park rises straight out of the town, with Glen Park's wooded burn at the bottom and moorland on top. At Lochwinnoch, Castle Semple is the main visitor centre for Clyde Muirshiel Regional Park, and Parkhill Wood beside the loch is old oak and beech with a network of paths; the RSPB's Lochwinnoch reserve is across the water. Down on the Clyde at Erskine, Boden Boo is a Forestry and Land Scotland community woodland of young trees along the shore under the bridge.

A session is two to three hours in a small group, mostly still, with the walk itself only a few hundred metres; Parkhill's oaks and the lochside suit it well, and the braes give a sheltered glen in winter. Each guide's profile shows their venues, dates and prices.

Castle Semple is the easy start, with a free car park, visitor centre and toilets, a level cycle track to Parkhill Wood, and Lochwinnoch railway station about a mile away. Glen Park in Paisley has a car park at the foot of the braes.

Common questions

Forest bathing in Renfrewshire: your questions

How much does forest bathing cost in Renfrewshire?

Public group sessions usually cost about £20 to £45 a person for two to three hours. Private sessions for a couple or small group start at around £120 and go up with group size and length. Prices are set by each guide and shown on their profile.

Do I need to book?

Yes. Groups are small and most sessions fill up in good weather. Book through the guide's own website or send them an enquiry from their profile.

What should I wear?

Layers, a waterproof, and shoes you're happy to stand still in on damp ground. Sessions are slow, so you'll feel the cold more than on a walk. In summer bring water and something for insects.

Is it suitable for children or people with limited mobility?

It depends on the guide and the wood. Some guides run family sessions in the school holidays, and many choose woods with level paths. Look for the Accessible sessions filter, or ask the guide directly.

Are there sessions in winter?

Fewer, but yes. Woods are quieter in winter and often more atmospheric, and some guides run sessions all year round. Check individual profiles for dates.

Not sure who to book?
