Forest bathing in Warwickshire

What is left of the Forest of Arden is scattered across north and central Warwickshire in small, old woods. Ryton Wood near Coventry is one of the largest, ancient oak and small-leaved lime cared for by Warwickshire Wildlife Trust, and Ryton Pools Country Park sits beside it. Hay Wood near Baddesley Clinton is Forestry England oak and conifer, and Oversley Wood outside Alcester is a similar mix. Hartshill Hayes Country Park above Nuneaton has ancient woodland on a ridge over the Anker valley, and Coombe Abbey Country Park at Binley Woods combines parkland, lakeside and old woods.

A session is slow and small: a guide, a few people, two to three hours, and very little distance. You'll be offered simple invitations to notice the wood with your senses and given long quiet stretches to do so. Warwickshire's woods are close to Coventry, Rugby and Warwick, so sessions fit easily around a working week. Dates and prices are on each guide's profile.

Ryton Pools Country Park is the practical start, with a car park, cafe and surfaced paths that lead into Ryton Wood. Hartshill Hayes has a car park and kiosk and is a short drive from Nuneaton and Atherstone.

Common questions

Forest bathing in Warwickshire: your questions

How much does forest bathing cost in Warwickshire?

Public group sessions usually cost about £20 to £45 a person for two to three hours. Private sessions for a couple or small group start at around £120 and go up with group size and length. Prices are set by each guide and shown on their profile.

Do I need to book?

Yes. Groups are small and most sessions fill up in good weather. Book through the guide's own website or send them an enquiry from their profile.

What should I wear?

Layers, a waterproof, and shoes you're happy to stand still in on damp ground. Sessions are slow, so you'll feel the cold more than on a walk. In summer bring water and something for insects.

Is it suitable for children or people with limited mobility?

It depends on the guide and the wood. Some guides run family sessions in the school holidays, and many choose woods with level paths. Look for the Accessible sessions filter, or ask the guide directly.

Are there sessions in winter?

Fewer, but yes. Woods are quieter in winter and often more atmospheric, and some guides run sessions all year round. Check individual profiles for dates.
