Forest bathing at Cliveden Woodlands
National Trust woodland and riverside paths above the Thames at Cliveden, with its own car park away from the gardens.
Cliveden is a National Trust estate above the River Thames near Taplow, known for its gardens and the house, but it also has a large area of woodland with riverside walks. Around three hundred acres of woodland and river paths make up the estate's dog-friendly zone, and several waymarked trails run through them, including a family play trail and longer routes down to the water.
The woodlands have their own car park at the far end of the estate from the main entrance, with the Woodland Lounge nearby for toilets and picnic tables. Starting there means you skip the busy formal gardens and can be under the trees straight away. The ground can be slippery in winter and early spring, so wear boots or wellies. The wider estate has steep slopes, steps and unfenced areas near the river, so it suits steady walkers best. Entry is charged for non-members, with parking included.
