Forest bathing at Clumber Park
A huge National Trust estate of woods, heath and a long serpentine lake, crossed by Europe's longest double lime avenue.
Clumber Park is about 3,800 acres of parkland, gardens, woodland and heath a few miles from Worksop. Its famous feature is Lime Tree Avenue, a two mile double row of 1,296 limes that the National Trust says is the longest of its kind in Europe. An 83 acre serpentine lake runs through the middle, and the northern part of the park has open heathland. There is so much room that finding a quiet stretch of trees is rarely hard.
Most people gather around the lake, café and walled garden near the main car park. Head out along the woodland paths or the heath walk in the north and it empties out fast. There are around 13 miles of tarmac roads and over 20 miles of accessible paths and trails, with some steps and uneven ground in places, so this is one of the easier big woods in the region for wheelchairs and buggies. Free mobility scooter hire is available.
