Forest bathing at Coed Moel Famau

Forest on the slopes of Moel Famau in the Clwydian Range, with a streamside accessible trail and an arboretum of native trees.

Coed Moel Famau is the Natural Resources Wales forest on the flank of Moel Famau, at 554 metres the highest summit in the Clwydian Range, about five miles south-west of Mold. The forest sits inside the Clwydian Range and Dee Valley National Landscape, and from the car park you can go a few hundred metres into the trees or all the way up to the ruined Jubilee Tower, built in 1810 for George III's golden jubilee.

For a slow visit, stay low. The Accessible Trail follows a stream through the woodland, and the short Arboretum Trail introduces native British trees; both take about twenty minutes, so you can walk them slowly and stop often. The Larches Loop is an easy hour to a viewpoint. The summit routes and Offa's Dyke Path are much busier, especially on fine weekends, while the forest itself stays calmer. There is a mountain bike trail here too, which walkers can share, so keep an ear out on the forest roads.
