Forest bathing at Greenbank Garden

Woodland walks of beech, oak and lime around a Georgian house and walled garden in Clarkston.

Greenbank Garden is a National Trust for Scotland property in Clarkston, about six miles south of Glasgow city centre. A small woodland of beech, oak, sycamore, lime, hawthorn and elder surrounds the formal walled garden and the Georgian house. It is not a large wood, but it is well kept and the woodland walks have their own opening times, so you can take a short, quiet circuit under the trees.

Spring is the best time, with daffodils and then bluebells under the beech and oak. The woodland walks are open daily except for a break around Christmas, and dogs are welcome on them; look out for wood carvings and sculptures along the way. Paths in the grounds are a mix of grass, stone and concrete, and the courtyard is cobbled. The walled garden is worth adding if you have time.
