Forest bathing at Leith Hill
Woods, heath and a rhododendron wood around the highest point in Surrey, south west of Dorking.
Leith Hill, south west of Dorking, is the highest point in Surrey, topped by a tower. Its slopes are a mix of woodland and heath on the Greensand Ridge. Rhododendron Wood was planted by Caroline Wedgwood of Leith Hill Place and fills with rhododendrons, azaleas and bluebells in spring. On the Duke's Warren side, a heathland walk passes the source of the Tillingbourne stream.
Rhododendron Wood car park is the usual start for the woods. The short Frank's Wood walk is at its best for bluebells in April and May. Away from the tower the woods are calm on most days. Routes are steep in places, with steps and uneven ground, and there is no phone signal, so set up parking payment before you go. Forest bathing sessions have been held here.
