Forest bathing at Llyn Llech Owain Country Park
A country park near Cross Hands with a lake, boardwalks over peat bog and mixed woodland on well surfaced paths.
Llyn Llech Owain is a 73 hectare country park run by Carmarthenshire County Council, a few minutes from Cross Hands. At its centre is a lake ringed by peat bog, a Site of Special Scientific Interest with bogbean, round-leaved sundew and royal fern. Around it are broadleaved woodland, conifers that are slowly being turned back into heath and native woods, and open heathland. It is one of the easiest places in the county to spend a quiet couple of hours among trees.
Many of the paths are well surfaced and suitable for wheelchair users, and a purpose-built path and boardwalks take you safely over the bog and right round the lake. Start at the visitor centre beside the water, then follow the woodland paths away from the play areas for quieter ground. A longer forest track suits a bigger loop. Listen for goldcrests and treecreepers in the trees, and snipe and little grebe on the lake.
