Forest bathing at Palacerigg Country Park

A council country park on the moorland edge south east of Cumbernauld, with mixed woodland, wildlife trails and long views west.

Palacerigg is a country park on the south eastern edge of Cumbernauld, where woodland gives way to open moor around Fannyside Loch and Toddle Moor. The woods are being managed under a long term forest plan that thins out wind vulnerable conifers and brings in more variety of species and structure. The park's rangers record pine martens, roe deer, badgers, owls and bats, and the countryside ranger service is based here.

The Badger Trail, made by the rangers and volunteers, is a good slow route through the woods, and the Big Loop takes you out to views of Fannyside Loch; on a clear day you can see Arran more than 60 miles away. The play areas and café near the visitor centre are the busy part, so head out along the trails for quiet. Glencryan Woodland joins the park by footpath if you want a longer walk. Toilets are at Palacerigg Golf Club, which is open to park visitors.
