Forest bathing at Willingham Woods
Pinewoods on the edge of Market Rasen, with free parking, forest roads and a café and toilets in the lay-by next door.
Willingham Woods is part of a large block of pinewoods just east of Market Rasen, run by Forestry England. It is one of the easiest Lincolnshire forests to reach without a car, since Market Rasen station is close by, and the long, straight forest roads and hard paths make for steady, unhurried walking.
The car park, signed off the A631 Market Rasen to Louth road, is free and open from dawn to dusk. Next to it, a lay-by run by Lincolnshire County Council has toilets and a café. The waymarked Red Trail is the obvious walk, and the forest roads also carry cyclists and horse riders, so for quiet, take the smaller paths off the main tracks, where you can stop among the pines for as long as you like. There is a picnic area by the car park, and orienteering routes if you want a different way to explore. Dogs are welcome.
