Forest bathing at Bryngarw Country Park

A former Traherne family estate in the Garw valley, with mature woodland, a riverside walk, meadows and an Oriental Garden.

Bryngarw Country Park, at Brynmenyn just north of Bridgend, is a historic estate developed by the Traherne family in the 19th and 20th centuries and once part of the larger Coytrahen estate. Today it is over 100 acres of meadows, gardens and mature woodland, with a lake, wetland and grassland, and an Oriental Garden that is laid out for sitting quietly.

Three waymarked nature routes start near the visitor centre: the Woodland Walk is the obvious one for slow time under trees, and the Riverside Ramble follows the river. The lawns, café and play areas by the entrance are the busy part; the woods quickly feel quieter. There is level access and accessible parking and toilets, which makes it one of the easier wooded places in the county to visit with limited mobility. Parking is charged.
