Forest bathing at Tremains Wood
An ancient broadleaf wood in the middle of Brackla, wooded since at least 1799, with old banks and quarry tracks.
Tremains Wood is a lowland mixed broadleaf woodland in the middle of Brackla, on the east side of Bridgend. It is ancient semi natural woodland: old maps show it at least partly wooded by 1799, and by 1875 it was marked as Tre Maen Wood. Look for the old boundary banks, the track to a former quarry and limekiln in the south west corner, and the remains of a stone wall near one of the southern bridges.
The trails are open all year and marked with robin arrows, with interpretation panels to help you name the trees and flowers. Walk in from Oak Tree Court, taking the footpath on the right as you approach Archbishop McGrath Catholic High School; the nearest public car park is at the Brackla Triangle Shopping Centre. It is a neighbourhood wood, so go early or midweek for the quietest time.
