Forest bathing at Ferry Meadows, Nene Park
Lakes, meadows and Bluebell Wood in Peterborough's large country park, with surfaced paths and a visitor centre.
Ferry Meadows is the largest part of Nene Park, on the western edge of Peterborough, and one of the largest country parks in the region. It is run by the Nene Park Trust, a charity, and mixes meadows, lakes and woodland along the River Nene. The most wooded corner is Bluebell Wood on the north side, with a boardwalk, a willow tunnel and native bluebells in spring. A Native Tree Trail near Lynch Lake introduces the park's trees one by one.
Start at the visitor centre by the main car park, where you can pick up trail maps. The central area has surfaced paths suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs, and there are accessible toilets and cafés. The Bluebell Trail, about 4 km, takes you up to the wood; the Ham Mere and Wildflower trails are shorter loops of about 2.5 km. The lakeside paths near the centre are the busiest, so Bluebell Wood is the place for a quieter hour. The park is open to walkers at all times, and the car parks have seasonal hours.
