Forest bathing at Lanhydrock

A National Trust estate near Bodmin with veteran trees, a beech avenue and ancient woodland along the River Fowey.

Lanhydrock is a large National Trust estate south-east of Bodmin, with the house set in parkland and woods running down to the River Fowey. The estate is home to a wide variety of veteran and ancient trees, and the walks take in the Great Wood, the Beech Avenue and riverside woodland where you might see kingfishers or otters and traces of old tin streaming.

The Great Wood and Beech Avenue walk is a gentle 4km loop and the obvious first choice. For a shorter, quieter hour, the Respryn Ramble is a 1.6km circuit along the Fowey through ancient woodland from the Respryn car park. The longer Deer Wall walk passes a medieval deer wall and an old quarry. You can also walk in from Bodmin Parkway station along the original carriage drive, about 1.75 miles, which is a good way to arrive slowly.
