Forest bathing at Florence Court
A National Trust estate below Cuilcagh, with native woodland, a forest park and the original Irish yew.
Florence Court sits on the lower slopes of Cuilcagh, south-west of Enniskillen. Around the house are pleasure grounds and native Irish woodland, and beyond them the estate's forest park. The best-known tree here is the Florence Court Yew, found on the mountain in 1740 and said to be the parent of all Irish yews.
The Blue Trail is the gentle choice: 2.2 miles on even ground and shallow gravel from the visitor centre, through the native woodland and past the yew, in about 45 minutes at a steady pace. Take longer and stop often. The Red Trail goes further, about 5.6 miles through the forest park, if you want a quieter, longer walk. Most paths in the pleasure grounds suit wheelchairs, and there's a powered mobility vehicle and wheelchairs to borrow. The tea room, shop and toilets are by the visitor centre. Dogs are welcome on leads.
