Forest bathing at Ely Lodge Forest

Mixed woodland with mature larch along Lower Lough Erne, climbing to the Carrickreagh viewpoint.

Ely Lodge Forest is about 250 hectares of woodland along the shore of Lower Lough Erne, a few miles from Enniskillen. It's a mix of conifers and broadleaves, with many mature European larch, and the ground rises from the water to the Carrickreagh viewpoint above the lough.

The car park is on the A46 Enniskillen to Belleek road, about four miles out of Enniskillen. From there waymarked trails either follow the shore, past a jetty and fishing stands, or climb to Carrickreagh for the view. The shore path is the gentler, slower option. The Forest Service is carrying out restoration work, so some areas are closed; follow the signs on the day. It's a useful choice if you're based in Enniskillen and want a short trip out to the woods and water.
