River and trees in Roe Valley Country Park, Limavady

Forest bathing at Roe Valley Country Park

Mature woodland along the River Roe on the edge of Limavady, with gorges, old mills and riverside paths.

Roe Valley Country Park follows the River Roe on the outskirts of Limavady. The river banks are clothed in mature woodland, and in places the water drops through steep, narrow gorges. The valley has a long industrial past: you pass the remains of linen buildings, ruined water mills and a restored water wheel, and the Green Lane Museum holds artefacts from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.

Paths run through much of the valley, so you can follow the river for as long as you like and turn back when you've had enough. The woods along the gorges are the place to slow down and listen to the water. Interpretation panels explain the history as you go. There's a café and picnic area, the museum opens seasonally, and there's a jetty for disabled anglers. Entry is free. Expect riverside paths that can be wet after rain.
