Forest bathing at Loggerheads Country Park

Riverside woodland and wooded limestone gorges along the River Alyn, with a visitor centre, café and old lead-mining remains.

Loggerheads Country Park follows the River Alyn below limestone cliffs on the edge of the Clwydian Range. The damp riverside woodland and steep wooded gorges are shaped by the limestone, which also drew lead miners here in the 18th and 19th centuries; the nearby hamlet of Cadole was built to house them. The old Tea Gardens by the river are still the heart of the park, with the visitor centre and café close by.

Start from the car park and visitor centre, where you can pick up maps, then follow the river into the woods. The Leete Path runs north from the park along the valley towards Cilcain and the Devil's Gorge; it is the classic Loggerheads walk and gets quieter the further you go. Other waymarked paths lead up to Moel Famau and towards Moel Findeg. The area near the café is busy at weekends and in school holidays, so mornings and weekdays are best for quiet time under the trees.
