Forest bathing at Templeton Woods

Over 150 acres of 19th century woodland on the north west edge of Dundee, with tall conifers and red squirrels.

Templeton Woods covers more than 150 acres on the north west edge of Dundee, just off the Coupar Angus Road before Birkhill. The woods were part of the Camperdown estate and were planted in the 1800s by David Taylor, head forester to the 1st Earl of Camperdown. Oak, beech, rowan and silver birch grow alongside tall conifers from the Americas such as Douglas fir, grand fir and western hemlock. Red squirrels live throughout the woods, with roe deer, buzzards and jays.

It is a working woodland with a network of colour coded trails from the car park and visitor centre, plus a woodland arts trail with a carved totem pole and a giant wooden xylophone. The tracks are shared with cyclists, runners and horse riders, so step off the main routes onto the smaller paths for quieter time under the trees. Templeton links on foot with Camperdown Country Park and Clatto, so you can make a longer day of it.
