Forest bathing at Dean Castle Country Park
Over 200 acres of free parkland and woodland walks around a 14th-century castle in Kilmarnock.
Dean Castle Country Park covers more than 200 acres in the heart of Kilmarnock, around a castle that dates from the 14th century. Woodland walks run through the park and out from the Rural Life Centre, where you can learn about the estate's history and look for local wildlife. National Cycle Network Route 73 passes through. The park is free and the grounds are open every day of the year.
Start from the main car park on Dean Road, where the visitor centre and the Treehouse Café look out over the park. The paths near the castle, café and adventure playground are the busiest; follow the woodland walks away from them for quieter ground. The visitor centre has toilets, accessible toilets and changing facilities, which makes the park a good choice for a first, gentle visit or for anyone who wants facilities close by. The castle has its own opening hours, separate from the grounds.
