Forest bathing at Pittencrieff Park

Dunfermline's town park, with an ancient wooded glen along the Tower Burn below the abbey and palace ruins.

Pittencrieff Park sits right beside Dunfermline Abbey and was given to the town by Andrew Carnegie in 1902. Much of it is formal parkland and gardens, but the lower glen along the Tower Burn is semi-natural ancient woodland, looking up to the ruins of Dunfermline Palace. The park has thousands of trees, native and from around the world, including an avenue of limes, horse chestnuts, a giant sequoia and a monkey puzzle in front of Pittencrieff House.

It is the easy-access choice in Fife: surfaced paths, some gradients, benches, and a short walk from the town centre and bus station. Come in from the Abbey gates and cross the Double Bridge into the park, then drop into the glen, which is quieter than the play areas and gardens near Pittencrieff Street. Look out for wrens and grey wagtails by the burn and fungi in autumn. There are toilets and glasshouses in the park.
