Forest bathing at Pollok Country Park

Glasgow's largest park: old estate woods, riverside paths on the White Cart Water and the ancient North Wood.

Pollok Country Park is the largest park in Glasgow, about 146 hectares of the old Pollok Estate, home of the Maxwell family for more than 700 years. Anne Maxwell Macdonald gave the estate and Pollok House to the city in 1966 on condition it stayed a public park. Alongside the gardens and the Burrell Collection there are extensive woodlands, including the ancient North Wood, and the White Cart Water runs through the middle.

Most visitors gather around Pollok House, the Burrell and the Old Stable Courtyard, so you will find more room once you head into the woodland walks or along the riverside paths. If you come by train from Pollokshaws West, the walk in already takes you through the park. Paths are mostly surfaced, with some steps, and the woods give good shelter on a wet day. The park's Highland cattle graze the open fields between the woods.
