Forest bathing at Finlaystone Country Estate

Woodland walks, gardens and a historic house on a family-owned estate above the Clyde at Langbank.

Finlaystone is a private estate open to the public, on the south shore of the Firth of Clyde beside Langbank. The house dates from the 1760s, built around part of a 15th-century castle, and was the seat of the Earls of Glencairn; John Knox held a Protestant communion service here in 1556. Today it belongs to the Chief of Clan MacMillan. The gardens are in the national Inventory of Gardens and Designed Landscapes, and a large area of woodland around them has marked trails.

The woodland walks are of varying length and difficulty, and a ranger service looks after them. The visitor centre, play areas and café are the busy part; the longer trails take you away from them. The estate is open daily during the day and charges for a day pass.
