Woodland path on the Colzium Estate, Kilsyth

Forest bathing at Colzium Lennox Estate

A former estate on the edge of Kilsyth with woodland paths, a walled garden and the ruins of a medieval castle.

Colzium is the old estate on the edge of Kilsyth. Colzium House was built in 1783 and came to the burgh after the Second World War; much of it was taken down in the 1940s, but the Victorian frontage survives. Around it are woodland, a fine walled garden with a range of shrubs and trees, a restored ice house from around 1680, and the ruins of Kilsyth Castle, burnt by Cromwell's troops in 1650.

A path network runs through the woods and grounds, so you can make a short circuit from the house or wander further. The walled garden is a sheltered place to sit on a cold day. The open lawns and play areas near the house are where people gather; the woodland paths are quieter. The estate is open throughout the year, and there is a small museum in the house with local history displays.
