Forest bathing at Blidworth Woods

Pine woodland and open heath at the southern end of Sherwood Forest, with free parking and an easy access trail.

Blidworth Woods lies at the southern end of Sherwood Forest, among arable farmland. Forestry England describes it as a mix of pine woodland and open heath, and it is popular with walkers and horse riders and gives cover to deer. Without the big visitor centre of Sherwood Pines, it feels more like an ordinary working forest, which is exactly why it suits a slow, quiet walk.

There are two free car parks. Longdale Lane is the larger, with a picnic area, a refreshment cabin and three waymarked walking trails including a surfaced easy access trail. Blidworth Bottoms is smaller and is the start of the blue trail. The heath is open and warm on summer days, while the pines give shelter in wind and rain. Forestry work is under way in the northern section, so follow signs and diversions.
