Twisted trees in Minwear Wood beside the Eastern Cleddau, Pembrokeshire

Forest bathing at Minwear Forest

Long-established woodland at the head of the tidal Eastern Cleddau, with an easy loop to an estuary viewpoint.

Minwear Forest sits inside the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park near the head of the tidal Eastern Cleddau, a few miles east of Haverfordwest. The ground has been thickly wooded for centuries, although conifers replaced many of the broadleaved areas in the last century. Today there is a mix of both, with red oak and beech giving strong colour in autumn, and herons, treecreepers and great spotted woodpeckers about the place.

The waymarked Minwear Walk is an easy circuit of about a mile and a half from the free car park. It starts on a wide stone track, then narrows and can be muddy, with a few steps, and leads to a bench overlooking the Cleddau estuary: a good spot to sit and watch the tide. Spring brings lesser celandine, wood anemones and bluebells. One picnic area has benches carved from tree trunks. The long-distance Landsker Borderlands Trail also passes through if you want to walk further.
