Forest bathing at Tŷ Mawr Country Park
Riverside country park on the Dee below the Cefn Viaduct, with woodland, surfaced paths and a walk to Pontcysyllte Aqueduct.
Tŷ Mawr Country Park lies on the banks of the River Dee in the Vale of Llangollen, right under the tall sandstone arches of the Cefn Viaduct. It is a mix of riverside meadow, woodland and farm animals, run by Wrexham Council, and from the river you may see salmon. With the viaduct overhead and the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct a walk away, the scenery is a mix of river, trees and old engineering.
The Tŷ Mawr trail is about a mile of tarmac path with some slopes and no stiles, so it is one of the easiest woodland-and-river walks in the area. For a longer outing, the walk to Pontcysyllte Aqueduct and back is about four miles, through the small woods and along the river, with two sets of steps. The visitor centre, café and animals near the car park are the busy end; the riverside paths are calmer.
