Forest bathing at Birks of Aberfeldy

A steep wooded gorge above Aberfeldy with a chain of waterfalls on the Moness Burn and a Robert Burns connection.

The Birks of Aberfeldy is a steep, wooded gorge on the Moness Burn, on the southern edge of Aberfeldy, made famous by Robert Burns. A circular path of about three and a half kilometres climbs up one side of the gorge and down the other, past a series of waterfalls, to a bridge directly above the Falls of Moness. The trees close in on both sides and the sound of falling water is constant, so there are plenty of places to stop.

The walk is in two sections, the Lower and Upper Birks. Expect a steady climb on the way up, with the bridge above the falls at about 250 metres. The car park is signed from the A826, and the nearest public toilets are in Aberfeldy. It is popular in summer and at weekends; early mornings and autumn, when the trees turn, are quieter and good for slow walking.
