Forest bathing at Black Spout Wood

Woodland on the edge of Pitlochry leading to a 60 metre waterfall, reached on foot from the town centre.

Black Spout Wood lies on the edge of Pitlochry, and the walk through it leads to a viewing platform over the Black Spout, a waterfall about 60 metres high. The wood has a rich woodland floor, and its birds are often heard in the leafy canopy rather than seen. It is part of Perthshire's Big Tree Country and is one of the easiest woods to reach without a car in Highland Perthshire.

The Edradour walk starts from the Atholl Road car park in the centre of Pitlochry and passes Blair Athol Distillery before entering the wood. Paths are good woodland paths and minor roads, and most junctions are waymarked. From the waterfall you can carry on along the Edradour Burn to Milton of Edradour, or simply sit at the platform for a while and head back. After rain the fall is at its loudest.
