Forest bathing at Dolmelynllyn Estate and Rhaeadr Ddu

National Trust estate at Ganllwyd with ancient oak woodland, mossy rocks and the twin Rhaeadr Ddu waterfalls.

The Dolmelynllyn estate lies at Ganllwyd in the Mawddach valley, between Dolgellau and Coed y Brenin, and is cared for by the National Trust. Its ancient oak woodland is dense and damp, with moss-covered rocks under the trees. The highlight is Rhaeadr Ddu, the Black Falls, two separate waterfalls that have drawn artists and writers for generations.

The Trust's Dolmelynllyn estate walk starts from the Ganllwyd car park, which has toilets, and runs for about four miles through woodland, grass paths and a little tarmac. Allow around four hours, since it can be muddy and steep in places, with kissing gates, a ladder and step-over stiles. For a shorter visit, you can simply walk up into the oaks towards the falls and back, stopping often.
