Forest bathing at Fermyn Woods
Ancient woodland and a country park at Brigstock, south of Corby, with gentle rides and a well-surfaced woodland walk.
Fermyn Woods is an area of ancient woodland just south of Corby, reached from the A6116 at Brigstock. Forestry England looks after the woods, and the country park at the entrance has a visitor centre, café and toilets run by the council. The woods are crossed by historic rides, wide grassy avenues through the trees, and red kites and deer are often seen. It is a good mix of easy facilities and proper old woodland a short walk away.
Start at the visitor centre. The Fermyn Forest trail is a gentle route along the historic woodland rides, the easiest way in, while the woodland walk makes a steady climb up the hill on a wide, well-surfaced path. Orienteering routes, cycling and play areas are based near the centre, which is where most people stay; the further rides are much quieter. Watch the sky for red kites above the trees. The woods are open from dawn to dusk.
