Forest bathing at Fullarton Woods

Mature native woodland on the edge of Troon, with accessible main paths and the traces of two lost houses.

Fullarton Woods, on the edge of Troon, is mature native woodland owned by South Ayrshire Council and cared for by the Friends of Fullarton with the council's rangers and Scottish Wildlife Trust Ayrshire. Fullarton House, once home of the Duke of Portland, was demolished in 1966, but its gateposts still mark the car park entrance, and the remains of the older Crosbie House lie in the wood, with Crosbie Kirk and its cemetery close by.

A network of paths runs through the woods, and the main routes have good accessibility, so it is a good choice for an easy walk. The Smuggler's Trail passes through. Look out for brass-rubbing posts showing local wildlife, and the Championship Garden in a woodland clearing, with picnic tables and woodcarvings. Toilets and a playpark are nearby, and the site holds a Green Flag Award. Volunteers meet on the last Sunday of each month to clear invasive plants, plant native trees and look after the nest boxes.
